#yesweplant: 1 million trees for Wallonia
Now that we can enjoy the sunshine again, we're jumping at this opportunity in Wallonia: the Hauts-Sarts industrial zone has challenged us to help make our country greener by taking part in the #yesweplant campaign. Of course, we accepted this challenge. Pretty great, right?
yesweplant¿- The project
Yes we plant is a project launched by the Walloon government. It encourages citizens, associations, farmers, businesses, schools, and public institutions to help reach the goal of planting 4,000 km of hedges or 1 million trees before the end of the current legislative term. Why? Our country's biodiversity is under threat. By joining this campaign, we're helping to protect the environment. And that means a lot to us here at BOMA.
Hauts-Sarts has challenged us
With an area of 450.87 hectares, 350 businesses, and nearly 10,000 employees, the Hauts-Sarts industrial zone is a major economic hub in Wallonia, thanks in part to its strategic location. Together, we have the potential to plant a large number of trees. Eric Englebert from Safran Aero Booster kicked things off for us on Monday, February 22. So we accept the challenge!
Let the flowers and the bees come!
Our shovel went straight into the ground. The BOMA team planted 3 fruit trees on the grounds of our Herstal site. We chose one cherry tree (Cerisier Bigarreau Ghijssen Demi-Tige RGF) and two different pear trees (one Poirier Bronzée d'Enghien Demi-Tige RGF and one Poirier Madame Grégoire Demi-Tige RGF) from La Pâquerette in Herve. This nursery is part of the Certifruit network. We have consciously chosen trees with original varieties that were selected for conservation. We're looking forward to our first harvest!
Do you accept the challenge as well?
Want to join us? There are still plenty of trees left to plant. Check out the current progress at https://yesweplant.wallonie.be/home.html and sign up today!
